Cendio AB is the Swedish company that develops ThinLinc, a remote desktop server for corporate Linux environments. Founded in 1992 by students Linköping University under the name Signum Support AB, it became Cendio Systems in 2000 and adopted its current legal name, Cendio AB, in 2003, when it focused the entire business on ThinLinc. It is a privately held company headquartered in Linköping, Sweden, at the Mjärdevi Science Park technology cluster.

Cendio technology separates the master server, which authenticates users and distributes sessions, the agent servers, where the Linux desktops actually run. Traffic goes through SSH tunnels, graphics are delivered by TigerVNC, audio by PulseAudio and 3D acceleration by VirtualGL, which makes it possible to publish OpenGL CAD and CAE applications using the server GPU. The session is a real X11 desktop, with GNOME, KDE, XFCE or MATE, and keeps running after the user disconnects.

The Cendio portfolio centres on a single product, ThinLinc, made up of the following elements:

• ThinLinc master server — brokers sessions, authenticates against Active Directory, LDAP or Kerberos and spreads load across the cluster.
• ThinLinc agent — runs desktop and application sessions on the Linux servers, with support for RHEL, SLES, Ubuntu and Debian.
• ThinLinc Web Access — an HTML5 client based on noVNC that opens the session in Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Edge, with no local install.
• ThinLinc client — a native client for Windows, macOS and Linux, with printer, drive, sound and smart card reader redirection.
• ThinLinc Desktop Customizer — standardises menus, shortcuts and appearance of the published desktops for each user group.

Cendio maintains the TigerVNC and noVNC open source projects and contributes to VirtualGL and PulseAudio — the same components ThinLinc runs on, which makes the product's technical base auditable. According to Cendio, more than 500 organisations use ThinLinc in daily operation, with around 120,000 users reaching Linux desktops every day and deployments ranging 5 to 10,000 simultaneous users, mostly in the industrial, educational and healthcare sectors. The company also partners with Microsoft for HPC scenarios on Azure, with an image published on Azure Marketplace, and the ThinLinc interface is available in ten languages, including Brazilian Portuguese.
