What is Igor Pro 8?

Igor Pro contains hundreds of improvements, including 20 new operations, 5 new features, and a new NetCDF XOP. Some of these changes will be specified below.

Long object names: Object names are now limited to 255 bytes.

User interface:

  • Window Browser: Use the new Window Browser to view all your windows at once, or filter types, names and/or waves to find that particular graph in the middle of the ocean of big data.
  • Toolbar: The new toolbar provides easier access to frequent utilities.
  • Procedure Browser: The redesigned Procedure Browser allows you to quickly find and filter symbols (functions, macros, etc).

Graphics:

The new Box Plot and Violin Plot charts demonstrate the distribution of values in a given data group easily.

Programming:

  • Command Completion: Procedure windows and command lines suggest options for completing the current command.
  • Go back/forward: The new Back and Forward buttons in notebook procedures or windows let you browse different windows in the file.

Data Analysis:

  • Transformations:
    • Operation New Short-Time Fourier Transform.
    • New seven dialogs for transformation have been added.
  • Curve Fitting:
    • New voigt and dblexp_peak.
    • ODR Fitting is safe and has its own parallelization function.

Igor Filter Design Laboratory: The Igor Filter Design Laboratory (IFDL), which was once a separate paid product, is a part of the Igor Pro. IFDL is a sophisticated and flexible environment for interactive design, validation and application of Finite Impulse Response (FIR) and Infinite Impulse Response (IIR) in your digital filters.

Performance improvements:

  • The speed of creating and displaying waves by name when you have multiple waves with similar names in a folder has been improved.
  • The speed of drawing waves drawn on the High-DPI Display in certain specific circumstances has been improved.
  • The speed of showing notebooks, help windows, and procedure windows has been improved.

  • Mac OS 10.10 or higher 64bits
  • Windows 7 or higher for both 32bits and 64bits
