AQUASEA

What is AQUASEA?

AQUASEA is a software package developed to solve shallow water flow and transport equations using galerkin finite element method. AQUASEA was first developed in 1983 to solve two-dimensional problems and, since 1992, has been continuously updated and tested worldwide on the most difficult modeling problems. It has been specifically configured and compiled to provide maximum efficiency in model configuration and quick model runtimes. The Windows environment offers not only a cross-platform feature, but also a guaranteed industry standard user interface for future developments. AQUASEA consists of the following two models:

• Hydrodynamic flow model
• Transport-dispersion model

Resources

• Variable depth, bottom friction, wind speed, wind direction, dispersion coefficients and mixing depth.
• The elements of the model can be wetted and dewatered numerous times due to tidal variations.
• Background friction can be the Chezy coefficient or manning number.
• Real-time variable data can be entered from actual observed records. AQUASEA automatically accepts different time bases and calculates intermediate values. Different wind and tide conditions as well as sources of time variation are accepted.
• Rivers are modeled by variable sources, taking into account the dynamics of river entrances.
• The contaminant transport model is fully integrated into the flow model using the same data input and output screen formats.
• The contaminant transport model is designed to calculate bacterial transport, heat and sediment transport.
• A template can be changed at any time. Model boundaries can be expanded or contracted and nodes added or removed. Submodels can be easily created anywhere in the original model.
