O Argus ONE Workplace
On the Argus ONE desktop, different types of information are created, edited, and maintained in separate layers of the GIS type. The number of layers is unlimited.
Layers
The domain outline is created using on-screen scanning tools or imported from GIS, CAD, and text files. The schema specifies the domain to be discretized and the desired mesh/grid densities. A domain sketch can contain internal discontinuities, river or fault lines, and point fonts.
Mesh layers
Triangular and quadrilateral meshes are created using automatic meshing tools. With interactive editing tools, meshes can be easily edited by techniques and point, click and drag. Mesh nodes and elements are database objects that can contain an unlimited number of records that are automatically assigned to them from linked information layers.
Grid layers
Block Centered and Grid Centered Grids are created using automatic griding tools. Rows and columns can be added and deleted manually, the grid can be resized and relocated, and blocks are automatically removed to follow the outline of the domain. Grid tiles are database objects that can contain an unlimited number of records that are automatically assigned to them from linked information layers.
Information layers and GIS layers
Information allows you to embed, view, and edit the spatial distribution of any physical parameter, such as topographic data, material properties, geographic information, initial and boundary conditions, sources and sinks, etc. Data can be automatically assigned to meshes and networks.
Orientation layers
Background maps can be drawn or imported into Orientation Layers to facilitate orientation within complex geographic and topological domains. Bitmap as well as vector formats are supported. Arcs, circles, lines, and rectangles can be created and copied to other orientation, information, and domain layers. Here you also present the results of the model using post-processing tools.
Bringing your data
By importing information from text files, CAD, and ArcView Shape, scanning from background images, and using point-and-click contouring tools, you describe the spatial distribution of continuous and discrete information and store it in information layers (GIS). In the information layers, you can store topographic data, material properties, geographic information, initial and border conditions, sources and sinks, etc. The information you bring to the Argus ONE desktop can be used to define the domain to be gridded or affected. The mesh and grid density can also be automatically linked to mesh nodes, elements, and grid/cell blocks.
Grid and Merge Problematic Domains
To create and edit meshes and grids, all you need to do is define a domain and instruct Argus ONE to mesh or grid.
Linking your data to meshes and grids
Link your information layers to Grid and Mesh objects, and Argus ONE automatically sampling the information layers to assign nodes and elements to their values. When you refine your networks or meshes, Argus ONE automatically resizes the data and reassigns its new values to the grid or mesh.
Calculating Complex Expressions
To easily calculate complex expressions, use the Argus ONE expression editor and the abundance of functions provided.
You can calculate the "Thickness" of a geological formation, the mass through an element or a block, the length of a "River" or "Fault" by crossing an element or a block, and the mass that contributes to them. You can also interpolate any parameter in a grid or mesh. Using these powerful tools, you'll save you many hours of programming. Argus ONE (worksheet type) expressions can contain mathematical, trigonometric, logical, search, GIS, grid, mesh, block, node, and element functions. To create expressions, use algebraic and Boolean operators.
Export to all your numeric templates
Whether you develop your own numeric models, use public domain models, or work with business models, Argus ONE allows you to do all your pre- and post-processing in a friendly environment and export the data linked to your network and mesh to all your models. Using the Export Template dialog, you create an export template for each of the templates that you use and save them to disk. Whenever you need to export your data to a model, simply load the form disk, appropriate export template, and choose the export menu. Argus Open numeric environments are device-independent. Projects can be printed on any system-supported output device, such as: dot matrix, laser printers, postscript printers, and plotters.
The finite differences grid module
To automatically grid even the most complex domains, set the domain and click a magic wand. You can easily define different block/cell sizes in different areas of the domain. All grid objects can be linked to information layers to allow you to easily export your data.
