What is Arixcel Explorer?
The tool shows the logical structure of any formula and allows you to easily navigate to the cells to which it refers and returns.
Press Ctrl + Q on any cell to open the Arixcel Explorer window. It will show the components of the formula with their associated values and locations. You can use the direction keys to explore the logical tree. Arixcel Explorer will highlight the selected parts of the formula and navigate to the cells referenced in the worksheet.
- You can continue working with the worksheet while the window is open and you can open as many Arixcel Explorer windows as you want. In addition, you can close all windows.
- Shows the target locations of VLOOKUP, OFFSET, INDEX and INDIRECT, as well as the cells selected by SUMIF, SUMIFS, COUNTIF, MIN, MAX, MAXIFS, etc.
- Shows the cells selected by the logical filters within the array formulas.
- You can click inside the formula string to select the relevant part of the formula and navigate to its location.
- You can expand the entire calculation tree by double-clicking the root node.
- The logical choices of the IF, IFS, CHOOSE, SWITCH functions are shown in bold.
- All colors and keyboard shortcuts are customizable
Formula maps
A formula map helps you check the consistency of the formulas on the sheet.
Press Ctrl + Shift + M to color all the cells of the sheet according to their formulas. Colors will show where the unique formulas are and how they are copied down and through the sheet.
- If you select multiple worksheets, you can show the map in all of them at once. You can also map a certain selection on the sheet.
- You can customize the colors in the Map Colors window. Choose 'No padding' to exclude the map category (not to color the empty cells in white, for example).
Precedents and dependents of multiple cells
Select any range in the worksheet and press Ctrl + Shift + Q to track dependents or select a range of multiple cells and press Ctrl + Q to track range precedents. The tool allows you to easily navigate to dependent ranges and return to the original range.
- Only direct and dependent precedents can be tracked through this functionality. Any other dependencies, including those through any INDIRECTs or OFFSETs, will not be included. Any dependencies through volatile VBA functions will also be lost. This means that there may still be indirect dependencies of the range, even if Arixcel Explorer says "No dependent found."
- You can select multiple elements in the window, the relevant ranges will be highlighted on the sheet.
- Range-dependents use a green highlight by default, while range precedents use a blue highlight. The original range is highlighted in pink. These colors can be customized.
- You can press the hotkeys again inside the window (or double-click) to track other dependencies, including other dependencies of various selected ranges.
- The complete list can be expanded and collapsed by double-clicking (or pressing the hotkey) on the root node.
