overview:
User interface
The ASE2000 operation is a menu-driven and window-oriented interface, developed according to standard Windows interface presentation guidelines. Configuration screens allow the user to define test session-specific information and user preference information. For quick start operation, the default values provided for most test operations are sufficient and prevent the need for long and complicated pre-test configuration.
For tests requiring special conditions, a set of intuitive and easy-to-use configuration screens is provided. Special configuration conditions can be saved to files with unique names and easily retrieved for use in future sessions. Many users develop a library of test scenarios often used with this feature, thereby eliminating repetitive configuration for future test sessions.
Display options
Display screens provide dynamic data display during monitoring and simulation test sessions.
Users are not limited to a single display format for message data. In addition, message data can be displayed in Interpretive Mode, which identifies, in English, the various elements of the message and their values, Raw Data Mode, which displays only the data of the numeric message, or both. Point data is available for presentation in tabular format.
Modes of Operation
The ASE2000 has three modes of operation, Master Simulation (communication with a downstream or RTU device), RTU Simulation (communication with a master station) and Line Monitor (listening for communications between Master and RTU/IED devices).
Master Simulation
Provides the ability to issue data scan requests and supervisory control commands to one or more RTUs on a line of communication. The configuration screens in this way allow the user to define a test scenario that identifies which devices to communicate with, which commands should be issued for each device, frequency of commands, screen format, and display format of the message data.
RTU Simulation
Allows the user to configure the ASE2000 test suite as one or more RTUs to respond to data scanning requests and supervisory control commands. Convenient configuration menus allow the user to specify point types, number of points, and point ordering that will result in the appropriate data message structure. Point modeling can also be enabled to provide data value changes in successive data scans.
Line Monitoring
It is used to monitor communication between a master station and all RTU/IED devices on a communication line. The message data for both directions is shown.
Version 2 of the ASE2000 adds task mode. In this mode, the ASE2000 operates from a user-defined RT/IED device database. Each setting includes counts and addresses of all entry points on that device.
Master Task/Simulation
Provides the user with a set of tasks applicable to the selected device protocol. Enabling a task causes the appropriate messages to be constructed and transmitted to accomplish the task selected for the device protocol and point configuration.
RTU Task/Simulation
Allows individual point states/values to be entered from the Point Values view. New values are passed in the next applicable scan response, with date and time records, if appropriate to the protocol. In addition, the user can set point modeling parameters to automatically generate point changes.
