What is Caedium Panel Flow?

Caedium Panel Flow simulates the optimal flow of gas (e.g. air) or liquid (e.g. water) around aerodynamic bodies and through simple ducts.

Designed for use by engineers who are not CFD experts, the Caedium Panel Flow interface uses standard physics terms to help you easily navigate the simulation setup and quickly get meaningful results.

Caedium Panel Flow is flexible and can be used for a variety of design applications, including aircraft, boats, submersibles and cars. You can quickly and easily simulate idealized gases (potential flow) (e.g., air) and liquids (e.g., water) to determine the directions of the flow and the rise or downforce.

Caedium Panel Flow is ideal for problems that are:

Irrotational (no cyclones, etc.)

Inviscid (simplified bodies, e.g. aircraft, cars)

Incompressible (Mach number << 1) (compressible corrections are available)

These assumptions allow for a quick turnaround using a surface-based panel method analysis technique. For a more general approach to fluid flow with fewer constraints and heat transfer capabilities, consider the RANS Flow add-on.

Resources

Simulate external fluid flow over simplified models or internal flow through simple ducts

Take advantage of any symmetry within your model and get your results up to 4 times faster

Study the transient flow (when combined with the geometry motion features provided by the Transient complement)

Enable compressible corrections that extend the range of Mach numbers to the high subsonic range (<1)

Generate geometry-based awakenings for elevation configurations such as wings

Speed up the panel solver using parallel threads (OpenMP) on a multicore computer

Speed up the extraction of results on a multicore computer using parallel threads and provide interactive 3D visualization while the simulation is running.

System Requirements

300 MHz or higher, Intel or compatible processor (CPU)

128 MB RAM or higher

300 MB of free disk space

SVGA 800x600 or better

OpenGL

Internet connection for installation

Windows system requirements:

64-bit

Windows XP, Vista, Server 2008, 7, Server 2012, 8.x, or 10.x
