CellMod Virtual Battery is the first virtual lithium-ion battery capable of predicting cell and packaging behavior, including thermal behavior, with an accuracy greater than 97%.
Based on an early-principle electrochemical model, CellMod is packaged as a Functional Markup Unit (FMU), allowing it to be easily integrated into most major simulation packages, such as Altair Activate, through the open industry standard FMI (Functional Mockup Interface). CellMod FMU accepts as current input, room temperature and time interval and will emit voltage, internal cell temperature, SOC and any other cell internal state variable.
Unlike the simple equivalent circuit (CE) models currently used, CellMod FMU takes into account the physical processes that occur within cells, such as diffusion in solids, diffusion in electrolytic solution, reaction kinetics, charge transport, heat transport, CellMod can predict the behavior of battery cells with a high degree of accuracy.
The standard battery model for CellMod is the Panasonic NCR18650A. This version can be used as a replacement representing a "generic" lithium ion battery and yet provide better accuracy than that offered by a simple equivalent circuit model. For project teams that require a high level of accuracy (~ 97% or accuracy at the level of statistical variation) of specific cell versions to represent any type of lithium ion cell, from NMC and LMO to LFP and NCA, and all iterations of those cells can be quickly developed.
