What is CoDA?

Component Design Analysis (CoDA) modules are designed to provide preliminary design procedures to enable a first analysis. The analysis will be followed by construction and testing for those without more sophisticated analysis facilities.

For those with finite element analysis (FEA) techniques, the initial CoDA analysis will allow the selection of possible materials, sizes and thicknesses of beams and plates, as well as support conditions for further investigation. CoDA is a product of the Composites Group of the National Physical Laboratory (NPL).

CoDA can be used to perform preliminary subcomponent analyses with sheet, beam, gasket, flange, or laminate geometries. CoDA can also synthesize the properties of composite materials, laminates and sandwich structures, which can be used uniformly in design modules.

Key features and benefits

The integration of the modules allows the effect of instantaneous changes in any input parameter (e.g. fiber properties) or laminate parameters (e.g. fiber angles, skin thickness).

In addition, four modules have unique parametric complements that allow you to quickly evaluate the "what if" scenarios, viewing any output result as a function of the input variable data.

It's easy to familiarize yourself with the software, although new advanced features may require the use of on-screen or print documentation. The speed with which the preliminary design can be completed safely will be a welcome surprise.
