What is FontLab ?

FontLab is an integrated font editor for macOS and Windows that helps you create fonts from start to finish, from a simple design to a really "ultra-bold" complex design, and brings a spark of magic to the design types.

Whether you're an expert or a beginner, you can create, open, modify, draw, space, create tips, and export desktop, web, color, and variable fonts. Your design process will be faster and more efficient with FontLab's innovative design tools and responsive contouring operations.

Creating Bézier curves is no longer "domain or mystery".

Power brush and brush

Apply the Power Brush to a "skeleton" outline for live adjustable calligraphic strokes. Control the angle and thickness of the brush and adjust it even after you draw it. Save the Power Brush presets and apply them to other outlines in your font.

Pencil tool

Pencil is a radical new drawing tool. Trim, adjust, modify, smooth, adjust. Nothing hinders the creative and successive approach - especially the usual restrictions of manipulating Bézier's curves.

Quick tool

The quick tool is a pen on the turbo. Click for a line, double-click for a curve and that's it. FontLab knows which nodes should be extreme and automatically makes smooth curves with the positions of chosen nodes.

Move the quick handles to change the stress of the curve segment, or double-click to apply the current pattern of the entire font. Rapid is great for quick drawings in consistent shapes or for intelligent manual tracking of a scan or background image.

Pen Tool

If you like to draw with an industry standard Bézier pen, FontLab has a great Pen tool for you. The best of Fontographer, FontLab Studio and some other approaches has been combined. And if you find a traditional Bézier pen, you'll love the rest of the drawing tools.

Control the form, not just the points

With Tunni Lines, you can finally move the two handles in a corner in sync, balance their proportions, and adjust the curve stress.

Set the time

Some of us define a rod position, but some are servants that only accompany when you move others. With just one move of a node, Ctrl + Alt + Nudge handles intelligently with Power Nudge other nodes. Curve Stress

The curve stress is aslong as a curve strays from a straight line between two points, from zero to 100%. For example, Helvetica has more tense curves than Frutiger or Myriad. A smooth contour will have a constant tension or a constant decrease or increase of the curve. FontLab not only allows you to visualize the curve stress, but also allows you to view it numerically, visually edit it, and even use the Rapid tool to draw curves with the stress set to your specifications. So if you want to make a font with squarer curves like Helvetica or Eurostile, FontLab can help you draw this way from the start.

Draw with consistency and precision

FontLab can dynamically suggest docking locations for us, angles, and rod distances as you draw, so you get equal distances. See rod and whitespace thicknesses, hold the lengths and angles automatically measured as you draw. Scale, rotate, and tilt without loss thanks to fontlab's fractional drawing accuracy and rounding of live integers, apply rounding to bake to the integers.

Smooth irregular curves

Harmonize your curves to make them really fluid. Make your node a Genius, which remains fluid even if you move the handles.
