The GBR2GREYSCALE is a raster image processor designed to convert the Gerber (RS274X) photo plotter format into a grayscale TIFF bitmap for use by image recorders and vision and machine inspection (AOI) equipment. It's similar to the GBR_RIP of Artwork, but includes several special features that aren't part of the GBR_RIP.
The GBR2GREYSCALE includes:
Border offset - placing a finite-sized pixel on the "edge" of a line can result in wider lines than intended (and narrower ranges.) The Edge offset (-shrink) parameter allows the user to enter an offset distance to account for the finite pixel diameter.
Gray levels – Some imaging systems can support 255 full gray levels – however, many cannot take advantage of these levels. GBR2GREYSCALE has a special bitmap output that has 2 levels of gray between black and white. Obviously, if desired, the threshold can be turned off to get the full levels of 16.64 or 255 gray.
Block size and overlap - the user can set the size of the output blocks and a fixed amount of overlap. The fixed overlay is very useful for architectures that expose twice the regions stitched between the heads of the photos.
Executable or Library
GBR2GREYSCALE is available as an executable (controlled by a command-line interface) or as a library in DLL format.This gives OEMs who want to integrate RIP into their own software maximum flexibility.
