GCxGC Software

What is GCxGC Software?

GCxGC Software is a multi-resource package for visualization, analysis and data processing produced by comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography. The GCxGC software package includes three programs:

• GC image to view, analyze and report on chromate grams individual GCxGC.
• GC Project to manage projects with multiple GCxGC executions/injections.
• Image Investigator is used for multivariate, automated and interactive analysis of multi-sample datasets for sample classification, fingerprinting, and marker compound discovery.

GC Image's GCxGC-HRMS Edition is designed to visualize, process, analyze and report data produced by two-dimensional gas chromatography (GCxGC). In addition, GCxGC produces information-rich data that presents complex processing and computing challenges.

GCxGC sifts the chemicals according to the time each chemical requires to pass through two capillary columns. GCxGC data can be displayed as an image with pixels arranged so that the abscissa (X-axis) is the retention time for chemicals to pass through the first column and the ordered (Y-axis) is the retention time for chemicals to pass through the second column. Each pixel value indicates the rate at which molecules are detected at a specific time.

The elution of a compound(s) in the sample produces a small blob or cluster of data point pixels with values greater than the background values. The magnitudes of the pixel values of the data points indicate the amount of the chemical product(s) present(s). Fig.threeBlobs illustrates a very enlarged view of a small region of a GCxGC image containing three drops of pixels indicating (at least) three separate chemicals. The smaller background values are colored in light blue, and the larger bubble values are dark blue and magenta color.

System Requirements

GCxGC-HRMS Edition is distributed for installation on computer systems running a Microsoft Windows Vista operating system or later, including Windows 7 and Windows 10. The suggested minimum hardware configuration is an Intel Pentium 4 of 1000 MHz (or comparable) CPU (a multi-core CPU is preferred), 1GB RAM (2GB or more RAM is preferable, especially for GCxGC-MS), graphics card compatible with 128MB OpenGL (256MB or more is preferred) and color monitor with 1024x768 (or higher) resolution (or dual monitors).
