GT PRO automates the process of creating a combined cycle cogeneration plant or gas turbine project, guiding the user to quickly and easily obtain an optimal configuration and technical parameters.
The user inserts design criteria, starting with the overall frame and progressing in a logical sequence for more details. Integrated expert logic automatically selects appropriate options and entries for the various details, based on the user's high-level selections. The program designs a new plant, calculates its performance, its detailed balance of heat and mass, and creates its main physical sizes and design detail. When combined with the optional PEACE module, it also creates the preliminary engineering details of the plant, estimates its cost and finds its cash flow and economic proforma.
Gt PRO's scope, flexibility, and level of detail have been growing steadily since it was first launched in 1988; and the 2018 version has more than 4,000 user-adjustable inputs. What makes it easy to use is that most entries are automatically created by intelligent design procedures within the program, while ensuring the user the flexibility to make any changes or adjustments. As a result, it typically takes only a few minutes to create a plant project. This allows the user to create and compare various plant options and variations within each, to find the most appropriate design, both technically and economically.
Any model created by the PDE can be imported into gt pro for further refinement and analysis.
Any GT PRO model can progress to GT MASTER for detailed analysis outside the project or annual operational cycle savings. It can also be read in THERMOFLEX to model unique details or special situations, such as integration with a concentrated solar thermal power plant.
GT-PRO models can be operated from MS Excel via Thermoflow's E-lLINK add-in, which allows GT PRO to receive input and resume outputs to Excel.
Many specialized features have been incorporated into GT PRO over the years. These include, among others, all the main types of aerators that have been proposed for igcc; CO2 capture processes, both pre and post-combustion; and the main types of desalination systems, MSF MED and RO. The automated top-down design logic of GT PRO extends to these specialized features are seamlessly integrated into the design logic of the power console, and not simply added as attachments, so they exert the appropriate influence on how the power island is configured and designed to combine them. This produces a properly integrated system based on user selections and inputs for the power island and specialized resources.
Examples of applications that have been incorporated into GT PRO over the years include the ability to analyze savings and optimize plant design based on the annual cycle, rather than a design point snapshot, allowing consideration of seasonal variations and fuel consumption during start-ups and shut-downs. They also include the ability to design an installation in which additional equipment is installed, such as inlet air coolers or duct burners, but not active in the heat balance of the design point; as well as a multipoint design facility to produce a final GT-MASTER model taking into account several GT PRO cases representing the expected operational envelope of the plant.
