What is Highly Available Shared Hosting?

In the highly available shared hosting architecture, traditional bare metal (physical) shared hosting servers are converted to virtual machines, running on a high availability VM infrastructure. The VM infrastructure is designed for high performance and high efficiency in mind. It can handle hardware failures (failed server, failed drives) without any downtime.

The result is better performance and increased availability of shared hosting service and lower total cost.

HASH is easily implemented in new environments or hardware upgrade cycles of an existing shared hosting company. In both cases, the HASH design offers better service and cost optimization. When traditional shared hosting is updated for high availability shared hosting, the total cost per user decreases.

Why should you switch from traditional hosting to high availability shared hosting?

Providing a shared hosting service with the best possible uptime and performance is a challenge. Backups and security are also a challenge, especially if you manage a large, complex infrastructure.

Switching to high availability shared hosting offers two main benefits - better service quality and overall cost optimization. You will decrease the total number of servers used (CAPEX) and the overall cost and complexity of your infrastructure. After the hardware upgrade cycle and HASH implementation, your total cost per user will be lower. You will then be able to provide high availability and fully SSD performance while maintaining and increasing your loyal customer base!

Highly available shared hosting architecture

At the core of Highly Available Shared Hosting is a cloud-like configuration: virtualized physical servers and shared storage built with software-defined storage (SDS). Scalable, highly available architecture and automation of the new solution reduce support and maintenance efforts and costs.

The software stack within virtual machines is identical to that used in traditional shared hosting to allow ease of migration and management.

The new HASH configuration is built with a high level of redundancy (2 switches, N + 1 hypervisors, 3 copies of data) to ensure 100% availability of the hosting service.

The benefits of using high availability shared hosting

Business Benefits

  • Competitive advantage: Improve service performance and availability. Increase the references. Decrease churn.
  • Less wage expenses/wasted time: StorPool will manage the storage system for you. Your technology team will manage 6 times fewer servers. Enjoy an auto-healing system. Maintain the physical server system without maintenance windows, downtime, or restart.
  • Reduced costs: The new architecture offers a quantum leap in service quality at a lower overall cost. After investing in HASH, your cost per user will decrease, allowing you to maintain more profit and/or invest in the growth and development of your hosting business!

Technical Benefits

  • High infrastructure availability - eliminate hardware-related downtime
  • No more downtime during standard maintenance or hardware updates and upgrade cycles
  • Much better performance - eliminate performance-related customer complaints
  • No vendor dependency and use of common hardware
  • No lack of bandwidth in peak periods
  • Increase hardware utilization - storage and computing
  • Have a simple and fluid system to manage and grow
