What is Highmaps?

Highmaps is an HTML5 mapping component optimized for creating thematic maps in web based projects. Aggregating features of "Highcharts JavaScripts API" and allowing the developer user to build interactive maps to display sales, election results, or any other geographically distributed information. Highmaps is perfect for independent use or in combination panels with Highcharts.

Characteristics

Compatibility

Highmaps was designed based on the principle of always being in perfect compatibility with mobile phone users. All its features from "Multitouch Zooming" to "Tooltips" respond perfectly on mobile platforms. However, Highmaps also works on older browsers like IE6-8.

Open source

One of the key features of Highmaps is the permission given to the user, with paid or free licenses, to download the source code and edit it according to their needs, adding greater flexibility in custom modifications.

Pure JavaScript

Highmaps is based solely on native browser technologies and does not require plungins such as Flash or Java. Also, the user does not need to install anything on their server, nor PHP or ASP or .net.

In summary, Highmaps only requires "JavaScript" file to work.

Types of maps

Highmaps supports the types of line maps, area, points of interest, bubbles and Heatmaps.

These features correspond to the series types in Highcharts.

Map Collection

For user convenience, Highmaps offers a collection of hundreds of maps, all optimized for fast download and integration with Highmaps.

Colored shaft

For full control over the color layout of the "Highmaps" coropletic maps. A separate color axis is displayed within the legend, integrated with most features of the scaling axes, in order to provide common options such as min, max, logarithmic scale, and more.

Dynamics

Using a full API, the user can add, remove and/or modify series and points or even modify the axes at any time after the chart is created.

Many events provide continuous help (it is not possible to write help hooks) to the user in the programming of charts, establishing a variety of solutions such as self-updating graphics (Live Charts), connected to databases on servers continuously stocked with new data (e.g. industrial production updates and goals).

Navigation

"Highmaps" presents all common forms of navigation such as +/-, "double click" zoom buttons, "Mousescroll" for zooming, "multitouch" and panoramic view.

Drilldown

The "Drilldown" module ensures good interaction between the areas of the map in a layer, which zooms in on a complete map over the underlying layer. The module also allows users to deepen more and more local data by simply clicking.

Geojson Support

In addition to the common concept of serious and points, "Highmaps" accepts the standardized "GeoJSON" format for map entry.

Export and Print

With the export module enabled/enabled, the user can export the graphics in PNG, JPG, PDF or SVG formats with single click, or print the graphic directly from the web page.
