What is instructor-led training?

Instructor training (ILT) occurs when an instructor conducts a training session for a group of students or an individual. While ILT can be done in person or online, the most important aspect is for students to have real-time access to the instructor for feedback and discussion.

ILT can be accomplished in a few different ways:

When to use instructor-led training

When done correctly, ILT is an extremely productive way to promote behavior changes in your employees. This puts them alongside experts on the subject. ILT is great for learning in-person practical learning (such as social skills training) and when a student needs machine help (such as technical training).

But times are changing rapidly and it may not be feasible to host multi-day ILT programs. Consider using a combination of learning modalities to achieve learning goals. You reduce the time dedicated to live sessions and use what's left for discussion, experiential learning, and dramatization - three elements that make ILT unique and valid.
