Fast code and recovery

Coding is how you define a section of text as being relevant to a specific topic or node. It's usually the longest time in qualitative analysis and when using text encoding software, so Learn Qualitative tries to make coding as fast and as easy as possible. Simply drag and drop a selection of text into one of the 'Quirks' bubbles to assign the text to this code. Peculiarities grow whenever a section of text is added to them, with the relative size showing the importance of the emerging themes from our sources.

Relationships

Clusterpreview lets you see if topics are being encoded together as you progress through the text. Themes automatically approach the more they relate, which allows you to see the connected nodes and the overlay text. This can check your assumptions or provide information about topics you never thought were connected to.

Comparisons

Each font in Learn Qualitative can be defined by an unlimited number of categories. The software allows you to see results only from a subgroup of your sources, for example by gender or age group. You can even run two queries in a side-by-side comparison view and see the difference in results from one group to another.

Word clouds

Visualize your qualitative data with word clouds and word frequency data, showing the words and themes emerging from your data. Create them for any project or selected fonts for comparison and customize them any way you want.

Search for mixed sources and methods

Your Learn Qualitative project can contain dozens of fonts, and you can manage and categorize them the way you want, with discrete, numeric, or multiple value properties. Include transcripts of interviews, articles, memos, or any other qualitative source, and know that you can work with all of them or just the necessary sources.

Directly import text, PDF, and Word files, or create a new font directly from the copied text to the clipboard. All the data you can open on your computer can paste into Learn Qualitative, including websites and even Facebook posts.

By working with mixed-method research data, which includes qualitative and quantitative data, you can create structured question projects to analyze them and bring all your data to Learn Qualitative. Bring closed, open questions to Learn Qualitative with one click from spreadsheets or search platforms such as LimeLM and SurveyMonkey. Code open responses and analyze results by their numeric or discrete properties. Learn Qualitative software  can also produce charts and reports to summarize your quantitative and discrete data.

Reporting

Disseminating your qualitative project data to the real world is a fast and flexible process with Learn Qualitative. Users can export a report only to certain respondents: do you want to show only citations from women aged 18 to 24? It's not a problem.

Teamwork

Learn Qualitative was designed with teamwork in mind. All actions are recorded with the user's name or initials, so you can see who made the changes and when. Compare one person's work with another's in a graphical view and even undo all work during a specific period. Merge files so that researchers can work remotely.

International text support

Learn Qualitative has built-in support for working in multiple languages and any type of script. Integrate latin-based language data sources, right-to-left scripts such as Arabic and Hebrew, and even logographic, sylabic, and characteristic systems such as Chinese, Japanese, or Korean.

System requirements

For Windows, Mac and Linux, at least 2 GB of RAM, a Code 2 Duo processor or more than 2 Ghz or higher are recommended.

Quirkos works best on computers with accelerated graphics (OpenGL or DirectX). Quirkos does not work on Windows XP or os x versions prior to 10.7.
