What is MAMP?

MAMP is a free local server environment that is installed on macOS and Windows with just a few clicks. MAMP provides them with all the tools they need for WordPress on the desktop PC for testing or development purposes, for example. It doesn't matter if you prefer Apache or Nginx or if you work with PHP, Python, Perl or Ruby.

What is MAMP PRO?

MAMP PRO is the commercial and professional front end for the classic local server environment: MAMP. With MAMP PRO you create a separate host for each of your web projects. Connect to a remote hosting server using MAMP PRO 5. This will allow you to upload a site from a local machine to a remote server, download a remote site to a local machine, or migrate a site to a new hosting server. Additionally, you edit files on a remote server without downloading them first. Install WordPress with just one click, and once your page is complete, publish it directly from MAMP PRO on your active server. This is only a small part of what is done with MAMP PRO.

System requirements

Here are the requirements your remote hosting account needs:

• Apache or Nginx with mod_rewrite (Apache 2.2 or higher)
• MySQL 5.6 or higher
• PHP 5.4.2 or higher
• PHP extensions required: MySQLi, cURL
• WordPress 4.9.4 or higher
• The user has rights to read and write r files when connected via (S) FTP

PHP settings should also be set in the hosting provider for the following minimum requirements:

• Upload_max_filesize 40M
• Post_max_size 128M
• Max_execution_time 300 (needs to increase if the server is slow and does not have data import support.)
• Memory limit 256M
• Max_input_vars 2000
