What is Mastersizer?

The Mastersizer 3000 laser diffraction particle size analyzer offers fast and accurate particle size distributions for wet and dry dispersions with minimal effort. Measuring from nanometers to particle size ranges in millimeters, it performs exceptionally well on the smallest number of footprints, bringing operator-independent measurements that every user can trust.

The Mastersizer 3000 is the latest generation of the world's most popular particle sizing instrument. Incorporating specialized engineering know-how and applications at all stages of your project. Offers:

  • Class-leading particle sizing performance in a compact area.
  • Intuitive software with integrated expertise to ease your workload.
  • Flexible reports to display your data the way you want.
  • Wet dispersion, fast and effective.
  • Fast and reliable measurement of particle size of fragile and cohesive dry powders.
  • Mastersizer know-how throughout, for the results you can trust.

The Mastersizer 3000 uses the laser diffraction technique to measure particle size. It does this by measuring the intensity of scattered light when a laser beam passes through a scattered particulate sample. This data is then analyzed to calculate the size of the particles that created the dispersion pattern.

A typical system is composed of three main elements:

  • Optical bench - A dispersed sample passes through the measuring area of the optical bank, where a laser beam illuminates the particles. A series of detectors accurately measure the intensity of light scattered by particles within the sample for red and blue wavelengths of light and over a wide range of angles.
  • Sample dispersion units (accessories). Sample dispersion is controlled by a series of wet and dry dispersion units. This ensures that particles are delivered to the optical bank measurement area at the correct concentration and in a stable and adequate state of dispersion.
  • Mastersizer 3000 software controls the system during the measurement process and analyzes scatter data to calculate particle size distribution. It also provides instant feedback during method development and expert advice on the quality of results.

System Requirements

The recommended computer system requirements to run this software are:

  • Windows 10 (Pro and Enterprise), Windows 8.1 (Pro and Enterprise), Windows 8 (Pro and Enterprise), 32-bit Windows 7 (Pro, Enterprise, and Ultimate), and 64-bit Windows 7 (Pro, Enterprise, and Final). However, it has been fully tested using Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit). Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit) is therefore the preferred operating system.
  • Processor Type: Intel Core i7 (Quad Core, 3.40GHz)
  • Memory: 4GB
  • Hard Disk Storage: 250GB
  • Additional Storage Unit: CD-ROM or DVD +/- RW
  • Screen resolution: 1024 x 768
  • Connectivity: 1 high-speed USB2 or USB3 port
