What is Menu-Based Choice (MBC) ?

Menu-Based Choice (MBC) is an advanced discrete options modeling software for various-scan menu studies. Many products and services allow buyers to choose from a variety of options in the configuration of their preferred product. Examples include restaurant menus, financial services, insurance options, car purchases, and phone/internet/cable options. Menu-Based Choice (MBC) studies are useful for the study of mixed packages, where buyers can select pre-designed packages of items as well as à la carte items. Includes logit and HB modules, as well as simulations (including excel simulation option).

Increasingly, declared preference choice projects involve Menu-Based Choice (MBC) scenarios, in which respondents can select one of several options from a menu. This is not surprising given the fact that buyers are generally allowed to customize products and services (bulk customization). Examples include:

  • Choice of options to put in an automobile
  • selections from a restaurant menu
  • banking options
  • configuration of an insurance policy
  • purchase of packages versus a la carte services, including mobile phones, internet and cable

The software uses a data processing and analysis process that can take experienced analysts from one to two weeks to make and compress the timeline for 1 to 2 days.

Menu-Based Choice (MBC) requires more knowledge to use it correctly. It is not a component of Lighthouse Studio, so for fieldwork, the researcher typically employs a traditional CBC project with custom research questions. This usually requires knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

To use menu-based choice (MBC) software, once the data has been collected, the user must have solid experience in CBC and multivariate statistical modeling, especially in terms of building models (regression, MNL) and the theory behind independent coding variables. While the software manages most of the details involving data processing, encoding independent variables, estimating models and simulations, the user must understand and target the process intelligently.

Your PC needs Windows Vista Service Pack 2, Windows 7 Service Pack 1, Windows 8, Windows 10, or later. It is also recommended that all Windows updates and service packs have been installed.

A PC with 2.8 GHz processor, 4 GB of RAM and at least 5 GB of free storage space is suitable for most projects.
