What is MEscope Visual Modal?

MEscope Visual Modal combines all the features of the Visual ODS Pro package with the features of the VES-4000 Basic Modal Analysis option. The Basic Modal Analysis option provides all the tools needed to extract modal parameters from experimental vibration measurements (FRFs). With Visual Modal you can identify the frequency, damping, and mode shape of a structure's modes from experimental data.

The modal parameter (curve adjustment) is estimated in three steps:

1.     Count the number of modes using a Mode Indicator function

2.     Time the modal frequency and damping for each mode

3.     Eat a modal residual (a modal shape component) for each mode and each measurement.

MEscope Visual Modal Features

  • Mode indicators for counting modes. Both a complex mode indicator function (CMIF) and a multivariate mode indicator (MMIF) function can be calculated, and all resonance peaks are counted above a rollable noise limit
  • Frequency adjustment and damping curve. With MEscope Visual Modal both the local method and the global orthogonal polynomial MDOF can be used, with extra polynomial terms to compensate for out-of-band modes
  • Adjustment of the residual curve. Both the MDOF orthogonal polynomial method and the SDOF Peak cursor method can be used
  • Quick adjust. Automatically performs all three steps of curve adjustment with minimal user interaction
  • Frequency and damping estimates are indicated graphically on the Mode Indicator chart
  • A curve adjustment function is synthesized and overlaps each measurement to graphically confirm each curve adjustment
  • Selected measurements and frequency bands can be used to improve estimates of modal parameters
  • In MEscope Visual Modal all modal estimates of parameters and curve adjustment functions are saved with each measurement
  • FRFs can be synthesized using modal parameters
  • Modal guarantee criterion (Mac). A bar chart and a spreadsheet of MAC values among all pairs of modal shapes. If MAC = 1, two shapes are equal. If MAC <0.9, two shapes are different.
  • Shape Difference Indicator (SDI). A bar chart and a spreadsheet of SDI values among all pairs of modal shapes. If SDI = 1, two shapes have the same values. If SDI
  • Modal participation. Displays the actual part, the imaginary part, and the magnitude of the modal participation factors that result when a set of shapes is adjusted by curve to another set of shapes.
  • Mode shapes can be resized between residual and UMM mode shapes
  • Modal parameters can be imported and exported using Universal File Format (UFF)
  • Mode shapes can be imported from Ansys, Emerson Process Management (CSI), FEMAP, LMS, I-DEAS, NASTRAN, Ono Sokki, Rockwell Automation Emonitor, Spectral Dynamics Star disk files
