What is NetTrace?

NetTrace: Liquid Geometry Tracker

The NetTrace library is intended to provide support for displaying a GDSII/OASIS layout and also track connected networks based on the physical touch of conductors or the intersection of conductors with pathways at the appropriate layers. It is provided as a pair of shared libraries that interact very closely – providing a high-performance solution.

This is a library for OEMs – typically companies whose equipment will display a camera image overlaid on the CAD data. The nettrace library allows a client to select a point (or points) in a layer and determine all electrically connected conductors in all layers.

There are optional functions to detect digital drivers, detect possible open/short circuits, and an option designed to use a list of "access points" and report all networks passing through one or more access points.

Because GDSII/OASIS files can be quite large, NetTrace has several network extraction approaches that allow for fast tracking – fast enough to serve as the basis for real-time inspection tools.
