What is Nextcloud Athome?

Nextcloud Athome puts your data at your fingertips, under your control. Store your documents, calendar, contacts, and photos on a server at home.

Nextcloud Athome gives you access to all your files wherever you are.

Where are your photos and documents? With Nextcloud Athome, you choose a server of your choice, at home, in a data center, or at a provider. And that's where your files will be. Nextcloud runs on this server, protecting your data and providing access from your computers or mobile devices. Through Nextcloud, you also access, sync, and share your existing data on your school's FTP drive, Dropbox, or the NAS you have at home.

The easy web interface allows you to share files with other users on the server, create and send password-protected public links, allow others to upload files to the cloud, and receive notifications on your phone and desktop when a user on another cloud server shares files directly with you. And you can also do all of this from desktop or mobile clients.

Running your own server takes work, but Nextcloud Athome makes it as easy as possible to run a reliable and secure service for you and your family. We give you tips and recommendations on the setup screen, let you know about updates and allow you to perform an update with just a few clicks from the web interface, provide a super easy-to-manage web installer and Snap and VM images, and more.

Privacy Center

What does privacy mean to you, and how can Nextcloud help you keep your data under control? In the settings, you can find the Nextcloud privacy center, where you can see where your data is and who has access to it.

Mobile and desktop clients

Nextcloud Athome's free clients for Android, iOS, and desktop systems allow you to sync and share files completely securely over an encrypted connection. Mobile clients feature automatic upload of photos and videos you take and can sync selected files and folders. Clients can handle multiple accounts, show you all the activity happening on your server, and notify you of new events, such as the availability of new shares.

Calendar & Contacts

Nextcloud's Calendar & Contacts apps allow you to store, sync, and share your plans and contacts. You can share with users or groups on your server, or sync the calendar or contacts with your devices and access them wherever you are. The Calendar & Contacts app feature:

Easy-to-use interface with views by days, weeks, months, and years

Private and shared calendars and address books with permissions management

CalDAV and CardDAV sync with third-party clients on both mobile and desktop devices (e.g., with Thunderbird, iOS, and more)

Secure audio and video calls

Operate your own secure and private audio/video communication service! You can access it through a browser, invite family or friends, and collaborate in a group through secure end-to-end encrypted audio and video communication. The WebRTC peer-to-peer communication channel cannot be intercepted, even by the server administrator. The conversational app also supports chat and comes with mobile apps for Android and iOS so you can call others from your mobile phone!

Accessibility

To ensure that Nextcloud Athome is accessible to visually impaired users, Nextcloud has extensive keyboard accessibility and screen reader support.

The colors used in Nextcloud Athome meet WCAG's AA standard for contrast, and we've created themes for users who need even greater support. The high-contrast theme aims for WCAG AAA compliance, while a dyslexia-friendly font option helps people with reading difficulties. A Dark theme is also available.

Create your own website!

You can make pages visible to everyone or only to users or groups on your Nextcloud Athome. You can also share the files that the site is made up of, so you can collaborate with others who maintain the site.

View and edit documents with Collabora

Collabora Online is a powerful LibreOffice-based online office suite with collaborative editing that works in all modern browsers.

Collabora Online supports real-time editing of your documents with several other editors, showing high fidelity, WYSIWYG rendering, and preserving the layout and formatting of your documents.

Collabora Online supports dozens of document formats, including DOC, DOCX, PPT, PPTX, XLS, XLSX + ODF, Import/View Visio, Publisher and many more.

Integration with Nextcloud, Outlook and Thunderbird

Automatically upload files to replace large attachments or integrate calendars and contacts into your email client

The Outlook add-in for Nextcloud Athome Secure Sharing allows Nextcloud users to easily and securely send files, folders, or upload links to others in Microsoft Outlook. The add-in can replace attachments by automatically uploading files to Nextcloud and inserting a secure link in the email. It also makes it easy for users to provide others with a secure file upload link.

With the integration of Outlook CalDav Synchronizer with Nextcloud, Outlook users can easily sync their events, tasks, and contacts between Microsoft Outlook and Nextcloud server.

Mozilla Thunderbird

Nextcloud Athome also provides a Thunderbird Filelink Addon! This Thunderbird extension makes it easy to send large attachments with Thunderbird by automatically sending them to a Nextcloud server first and inserting the link into the body of your email.

Thanks to the Mozilla Thunderbird Lightning Calendar add-on and the Thunderbird Contacts Cardbook add-on, Calendar and Contacts integrates very well with Thunderbird.

Integrated account management

Nextcloud Athome features integrated with account management with optional two-factor authentication, making the process of creating and modifying accounts easier. If you've set up an LDAP, you can also connect it to Nextcloud!

Workflow management

With Nextcloud, system administrators can control and direct the flow of data between users on or between servers. The File Access Control app and other workflow tools can be used to prevent accidental sharing of sensitive data, adding an additional layer of protection to Nextcloud.

Tracking changes to your files

The Activity nextcloud app shows file modifications, share downloads, and changes to comments or tags, providing an overview in the browser, clients, or via email notifications and an RSS feed.

Monitoring Your Nextcloud Athome Server

The Monitoring app allows administrators to monitor the health and performance of a Nextcloud system with a graphical interface and an API endpoint to monitor applications.

Offsite storage, securely encrypted

Nextcloud's external storage feature gives you access to your data wherever it resides. Nextcloud Athome can access files stored with a wide range of popular cloud service providers such as Amazon, Google, and Dropbox, but you can also access them using standard protocols such as NFS, FTP, WebDAV.

The Encryption app can encrypt data at rest for local and remote storage, protecting data stored on networks outside of your server. Nextcloud will keep your data where it is and retrieve it on a secure communication channel whenever you need to access it.

Powerful search

Nextcloud Athome includes a powerful full-text search engine capable of using ElasticSearch as a backend. Its flexible plugin-based interface allows for search capabilities in addition to files and accommodates other backend solutions like Apache Solr.

Extend your cloud

You can extend the functionality of your Nextcloud Athome with extra features in the Nextcloud Athome app store. Among the more than 200 apps, you'll find features that enhance sharing, including:
