What is Proxmox VE?

Proxmox VE lets you virtualize even the most demanding Linux and Windows application workloads. By combining two virtualization technologies into a single platform. Proxmox VE provides maximum flexibility to your data center. It includes strong high availability (HA) support, and thanks to the unique multimaster design, you don't need an additional management server saving resources and enabling single-point HA (SPOF).

Recommended hardware

  • Intel EMT64 or AMD64 with Intel VT/AMD-V CPU flag.
  • Memory at least 2 GB for SO and Proxmox VE services. In addition to memory designated for guests. For Ceph or ZFS, additional memory is required, approximately 1 GB of memory for each storage used in TB.
  • Fast and redundant storage, better results with SSD disks.
  • OS storage: Hardware RAID with battery-protected write cache ("BBU") or non-RAID with ZFS and SSD cache.
  • VM storage: For local storage, use a hardware RAID with battery write cache (BBU) or not RAID for ZFS. Neither ZFS nor Ceph is compatible with a hardware RAID controller. Distributed shared storage is also possible.
  • Redundant Gbit NICs, additional NICs, depending on the preferred storage technology and cluster configuration - 10 Gbit and higher are also supported.
  • For the passage of PCI (e), a CPU with CPU flag VT-d / AMD-d is required.
