What is R2V?

R2V is an advanced raster-to-vector conversion software for automated map scanning, GIS data capture, and CAD conversion applications. R2V is currently being used in more than 60 countries by thousands of users for mapping and GIS data conversion applications. R2V supports fully automatic vectoring and interactive line tracking from scanned maps and drawings.

R2V inputs are bi-level, grayscale, and color in TIFF, GeoTIFF, GIF, JPEG, RLC, PNG, or BMP formats.

Exports vector data to ArcView Shapefiles, Arc/Info Generate, MapInfo MIF/MID, AutoCAD DXF, IGES, STL, VRML, SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) and MapGuide SDL formats. R2V provides a complete screen image and screen editing, labeling, and georeferencing using GeoTIFF or user-specified control points, image eraser sheets, color image classification and separation, text symbol detection and recognition (OCR), automatic polygon layer creation, 3D DEM and Grid creation,  and 3D display and drape of images.

Functions:

Able R2V Software for Windows, is a powerful raster-to-vector conversion software at a reasonable price. R2V combines the power of intelligent automatic vectoring technology with an easy-to-use, menu-driven graphical user interface in the Microsoft Windows environment.

The software converts maps or scanned images into vector formats for mapping, geographic information systems (GIS), CAD and scientific computing applications.

The system is easy to use and can be learned quickly by users with any level of technical experience. R2V provides an easy and complete solution for scanning vector data from image sources such as scanned maps and drawings, aerial photos, and satellite images. For many images, the entire process of raster-to-vector conversion is fully automatic and does not require human intervention.

You display the scanned image on the screen and you select the vectorization command. That's all it takes! All lines are extracted in seconds and displayed directly over the image to check and edit. Powerful editing and processing functions are provided for editing, georeferencing, and labeling your data.

R2V has all the tools to get a perfect set of vector data faster and easier than any other method. With R2V, you can forget the slow and inaccurate manual tracking on a scanning tablet, just scan your map or drawing and allow the R2V to go viral

automatically, with a high level of accuracy. A typical contour map or plot scand at 200 DPI (dots/inch) as black and white or grayscale can be vetoed in seconds or minutes on a Pentium PC.

Image formats:

TIFF, GeoTIFF, JPEG, GIF, RLC, PNG and BMP formats. R2V supports most types of images, including 1 bi-level bit, 8 degrees grayscale, and color images (4-bit, 8-bit, and 24-bit). Most TIFF image compressions are supported. There is no software limit for image sizes. R2V also supports SPOT and other raw satellite image formats. Geo-reference your raster image in R2V and save in GeoTIFF format. Vector Export/Import: ArcView (form file), Arc/Generate Info, AutoCAD DXF, MapInfo (MIF/MID), IGES, MapGuide SDL, 3D Grid, 3D DEM (compatible with USGS DEM), VRML and 3D XYZ vector File formats. More vector file formats are being added.

Advanced Vectorization:

R2V supports three types of vectorization:

1. Fully automatic vectorization.  A command will vectorize your scanned map in seconds or minutes with high quality. The batch function allows vectorization of multiple maps without any user intervention. Write your own batch script to customize the image processing steps before vectorization and for vector line processing after vectorization.

2. Interactive line tracking.  You select two points in the image and let R2V draw the line for you. Easy, accurate and smart! For maps or complex drawings, use interactive tracking to selectively vectorize lines. Or use the multiline tracking function to vectorize a group of rows with just two clicks.

3. Manual scanning on screen on screen.  With R2V's easy-to-use vector editor, you simply draw the lines with your image as a backdrop, zooming in and out, and quickly create the dataset for your specific applications.

Full vector edition:

a full vector editor on the screen is provided using the image as a background. Lines can be created, moved, joined, split, removed, colored, and labeled. Closed polygons are easily formed from existing lines with the polygon editing tool. Vector tagging and contour map scanning: Lines can be labeled with different ID values that are saved as attributes when exporting to a mapping package or GIS. The semi-automatic contour line rotation is supported for vector rasterizing fast elevation assignments: converts vector data into high-resolution raster images for printing and processing. Multiple layers: Use the R2V layer manager to define how many layers are required to organize the vetoed data into layers. Layers created in R2V are fully compatible with export vector file formats that support the multiple-tier structure. With multiple layers defined, vector data can be processed, edited, and displayed by layer and moved between layers. Layers can be turned on, disabled, or locked for flexible editing and manipulation of vector data.

Point feature scanning:

Full support for scanning point features. Points can be created, moved, and labeled. Point data can be exported to all supported vector file formats. Automatic polygon layer creation: Automatically create polygon layers from vector lines with just one command.

Closed polygons can then be edited and labeled using the R2V line editor. Polygons can be displayed in fill mode with a user-defined hatch pattern and the color for the layer. Eraspera raster image editing: R2V provides a powerful raster drawing tool for easy pixel editing and repair.

All types of images, including 1-bit monochrome, grayscale, 8-bit color, and 24-bit colors, are supported by the Image's Pixel tool. Pixel mapping functions can easily map one pixel value to another for the entire image to remove noise pixels, clear the background of the image, or merge color layers.

Geo-Referencing Using GeoTIFF or Control Points: Vector data can be geo-encoded or georeferenced to a real coordinate system (e.g., UTM, Latitude/Longitude) using GeoTIFF, user-selected control points, or a World (TFW) file. Raster images can also be georeferenced with a generated World file supported by the Arc/Info, ArcView, or ESRI TAB file by MapInfo. Image erasheet functions allow geometric correction or recording of an image for a new coordinate system. R2V supports Bilinear and Delaunay triangulation methods for geometric transformation. Geotiff-referenced rasterized images can be saved in GeoTIFF format and are fully compatible with other packages that support GeoTIFF.

Conversion between map projection systems:

R2V supports conversion between UTM coordinate systems, latitude/longitude, NAD27 state plane and state plane NAD83 systems. You can convert a point or an entire set of control points automatically. Automatic Text Detection and Recognition (OCR): Detects and recognizes text of different fonts, sizes, and languages automatically. Flexible editor for easy removal and handling. Other irregular intersecting symbols can be detected and corrected as well. Merge multiple maps: Use R2V to vetualize maps separately and then merge them into a set specifying appropriate control points. The merged vector dataset can then be edited within R2V and treated as a single map. Flexible Region of Interest for Vectorization.

Image Processing:

R2V supports regions of interest in the form of circles, rectangles, freeform polygons, and their combinations for vectorization and image cultivation. 3D Display with Image Draping: Automatically create a 3D dataset from your labeled line data and display it using R2V's advanced 3D animation and animation function. View your data with 3D image drape at any angle and distance. Supports 3D DEM (USGS compatible format) and Grid for input and output. 3D models can be exported to DXF, VRML and XYZ formats. Powerful image processing: vertical and horizontal scrolling, transposition, rotation, dark background removal, border detection, image resampling, region cropping, smoothing, segmentation, image mosaic, merging, entaping and denying. Supervised and unsupervised classification is built to help process aerial photos or satellite images that are in color. Color separation, grayscale image enhancement, and image type conversions can be done using R2V.

Mosaic of images:

The R2V image mosaic command makes it easy to create a mosaic image from a series of subsections. Just start by selecting the Image/Mosaic option and specify the layout matrix and the names of the image files. The image tile will be created in a few seconds. Images with overlapping borders are correlated to create a continuous image mosaic. Image merging and overlay: The image merge function allows you to interactively combine multiple images to create image or tile overlays.

Minimum System Requirements

Operating systems: Windows 2000, XP, Vista, or later

RAM: Minimum 128 MB (512 MB or more is highly recommended if large-sized images are processed)

HARD DRIVE: 30 MB for software and extra space to store your scanned images.

DISPLAY: SVGA in 16-bit color or better.
