What is SAM?

SAM engine design software is an excellent tool for design engineers, experts, and teachers.

Teachers

Become the most popular teacher!

SAM makes your engine course more lively and your practical exercises more fun for your students and less laborious for you. In the end, this leads to better knowledge transfer, motivated students, and higher grades.

Design engineers

The tool you can trust!

Engine design is just one of many challenges you need to face. If it's not your daily routine, it's important that the tools you're using are easy and intuitive.

Experts

Increase your solution space in no time!

With SAM, you can tackle any engine design challenge, perform motion/force analysis, and even improve the initial design with state-of-the-art optimization based on a mixed evolutionary algorithm and Simplex approach.

SAM (Synthesis and Analysis of Mechanisms) is an interactive PC software package for the design, analysis (movement and force) and optimization of arbitrary planar mechanisms. Mechanisms can be generated through the design wizards or can be assembled from basic components including beams, sliders, gears, belts, springs, shock absorbers and friction elements. SAM integrates preprocessing, numerical analysis, and postprocessing, such as animations and xy graphics, into an easy-to-use environment with drop-down menus, mouse support, and help features.

The mathematical basis of the parsing kernel, which is inspired by the well-known finite element approach, offers a large number of features and overcomes many of the problems of traditional engine programs. Open loop, closed loop, multiple loop and even complex planetary mechanisms can also be analyzed due to finite element formulation. Even the most complex mechanisms, including planetary gear trains, can be modeled in minutes

SAM is available in English, German, Spanish, French, Dutch, and Chinese.

Interface CAD

The DXF import/export feature allows you to export your conceptual engine design to any CAD program to work out the details, and allows you to import CAD data to easily configure the engine in SAM or to perform the final engine animation.

Postprocessing

The results of the analysis can be displayed in tabular or graphical form. The tabular listing can be viewed on the screen, sent to a printer, or stored in a formatted, readable list file. The x/y plot option allows you to plot any variable against time or any other variable. An unlimited number of functions can be combined into an x/y graph with optionally two different scales to allow adequate multiple display of variables with different amplitude ranges. You can send selected data to an external file (ASCII format) for custom post-processing.

SAM can also animate the movement of the engine. As an additional aid to the designer, the tracing and velocity odograph of any number of moving points can be plotted. In addition, a complete project documentation (ASCII format) can be generated automatically.
