What is Simstat?

SIMSTAT is an easy-to-use and powerful statistical program that performs a wide variety of statistical analyses. It plots high-resolution graphics and has a powerful batch command language to automate analysis. It also has an innovative notebook of results to compile statistical results along with notes and annotations. It can import data from various database and spreadsheet formats, as well as ASCII and SPSS files.

Data management

The data window is a spreadsheet as a data editor where values can be entered, searched, or edited.

Features:

Reads standard DBF files up to 1024 variables (or fields). You can import and export text files separated by comma or tabs, Paradox, Lotus 1-2-3, Symphony, Excel, Quattro Pro, SPSS/PC+ and SPSS for Windows.

Supports variables and value labels in up to 3 missing values

Records can be filtered using valid xBase expressions

Records can be sorted into one or more variables or in xBase expression results

Supports data transformation (including conditional transformation), recoding, sorting. Provides more than 50 transformation functions, including trigonometrics, statistics, random number functions.

Outbound Management

The notebook window displays the statistical output for all analyses performed during a session. The notebook metaphor provides an efficient way to search for and control results.

The text output of each analysis is displayed on a separate page. You can rotate the pages with your mouse by clicking the "Page flip" icons at the bottom of the notebook or by the keyboard keys. Although each page can be annotated or edited, you can also add empty pages to place ideas or observations, sketch an analysis plan, or annotate the interpretation of the results.

Tabs can be added to create sections on the notebook allowing you to store different types of analysis in different sections of the notebook. An index of all analysis is generated automatically. This index can be used to quickly locate a specific page and go to it, move pages within the notebook, or delete some pages

Graphics

The graphics window displays all high-resolution graphics created during a session. It provides full control over the axis, labels, legends, colors, line drawing, etc. The resulting graphics can be exported to disk in Windows Metafile format or copied to the clipboard as an image, Windows metafile, or tab-separated values.

Scripting

The script window is used to type and edit commands. These commands can be read from a script file on disk, typed by the user, or generated automatically by the program. When used with the RECORD feature, the script can also be used as a log window to track analysis performed during a session. These commands can then be run again, providing an efficient way to automate statistical analysis. Additional commands also allow you to create demo programs, computer-assisted teaching lessons, and even computer-assisted data entry.

Statistical analysis, data filtering, and transformation commands

Write script feature to automatically generate commands corresponding to operations performed with menus and dialog boxes.

Flow control features, such as IF-THEN-ELSE statements, GOTO or GOSUB commands, RUN command to run external programs, etc.

You can read, write, and perform mathematical operations on user-defined variables or in any database field

Create menus, text boxes, input boxes, dialog boxes, multiple item questions, etc. (a user's answers can be stored in memory variables or in a data file)

Multimedia features: play sound (. WAV), music (. MDI) and movie files (.AVI), display graphics (.BMP) and text.

Add-ins

SIMSTAT for Windows has a wide variety of add-ins that allows you to extend the capabilities of the program.

Ability

The program can handle up to 1024 variables and 310,000 cases (some analyses are unlimited).

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

Windows 3.1 or higher

4MB or more ram

3.5 MB free on hard drive
