Smart Die is an AutoCAD plug-in designed for package designers who need to extract keyboard coordinates from a GDSII stream file provided by the IC designer. SmartDie does this literally in seconds – the package designer only needs to know the layer on which the cushion ring is located.
Handling large layouts
Smart Die first calls the GDSFILT program, which extracts and flattens all the data at the layer specified by the package engineer. It can reduce a GDSII file from 300 MB to 50 KB in seconds. The pad ring layer is automatically converted to a DXF file by the GDS2DXF program and imported directly into AutoCAD.
Pad Recognition
Once in AutoCAD, a insert recognition routine finds all the inserts, their central coordinates, and their size and shape. The user specifies block 1 and the direction to number the blocks. Smart Die automatically numbers each block.
