What is SpamAssassin for Windows?

SpamAssassin for Windows is based on the Apache Software Foundation (ASF) project and was ported to Windows by JAM Software. It is one of the most effective anti-spam solutions and uses a variety of mechanisms including text analysis, Bayesian filtering, and DNS requests to block known spammers. Using a Message Transfer Agent (MTA) in combination with SpamAssassin for Windows, it provides a powerful spam detection solution that identifies unwanted emails in advance and rejects them.

SpamAssassin Components

Freeware includes the following components of SpamAssassin as Windows executable applications (e.g.)

  • spamassassin.exe: email filter
  • spamd.exe: SpamAssassin as a server process (Daemon)
  • spamc.exe: client to server process
  • sa-update.exe: a program to update filter rule settings
  • sa-learn.exe: trains the Bayes filter in relation to spam /ham-mails

Supported plugins

SpamAssassin for Windows provides a wide variety of plugins, which have been tested on Windows and work correctly. Any other SpamAssassin or third-party plugins may also be used, but will not be covered by JAM Software support.

  • AutoLearnThreshold: a threshold-based discriminator for automatic Bayes learning
  • Bayes: Determines the probability that an email is spam using a Bayesian classifier
  • Check: Provides the primary verification functionality
  • DKIM: Performs DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) checks to validate email
  • Freemail: Detect email addresses using free webmail services
  • Hashcash: Run hashcash verification tests
