What is SQL Database Deployment Builder?

Builder is a tool that allows you to automate the deployment of database-based solutions. It generates executable packages, which contain all the information needed to deploy a SQL Server database to client environments, regardless of whether it is an initial deployment or an upgrade from an earlier version.

Executable ready to deploy - A simple wizard-based interface allows the user to make some choices, such as the master database, the deployment scenario, and generate a standalone, deployment-ready executable. When the package runs on the client, depending on the deployment scenario, it creates the database in the client environment as a new database or, if it exists, synchronizes it with the built-in master database (schema only without touching the data). Finally, it runs any post-sync script that may have been specified and sends a notification to a configurable and designated email address.

Deploy to multiple clients - The same executable package can be deployed to multiple clients. The target database and credentials for each client can be defined in the xml configuration file included in the deployment package, or they can be passed as parameters to the executable at run time.

Standalone package - the user can choose to embed the master database in the executable or leave it as an external resource - the later one might make sense if you expect the master database to change after the executable package is generation. Depending on the implementation scenario you choose, xSQL Builder will compress and incorporate a snapshot of the master database schema, or the full database backup or T-SQL scripts.

Customizable C# code templates - xSQL Builder uses a set of template files to generate the executable package. Template files are C# classes that contain the comparison and synchronization code that runs on the client machine. xSQL Builder comes with a 2015 C# VS.NET that you can run or modify as needed.

Custom pre- and post-synchronization scripts - xSQL Builder allows the user to specify a single file or an entire folder containing T-SQL scripts as scripts that must run before the target database is synchronized with the master. In the same way that the user can specify a set of scripts that will run after the target database is synchronized with the master.

Extensive logging - xSQL Builder keeps a detailed record of all events and operations performed in the client environment during deployment package execution. There are 3 log files that xSQL Builder generates - the operational log, the synchronization log, and the error log.

Integrated Notification - xSQL Builder provides the option to notify a designated operator when the execution status of the package meets a certain criterion. Email notification depends on the microsoft .NET framework and requires an SMTP server along with the required credentials. In the event of a failure, the notification email will also contain the error log that allows the recipient to determine the cause of the failure.
