What is Stereoscopic Player?

Why is it necessary to use special software for 3D movie playback?

The reason is that there are many different ways to watch stereoscopic content as well as different ways to store content. In the past, it was necessary to encode a stereoscopic film for each viewing method, for example, you had to create an anaglyph file, an interlaced file for use with shutter glasses, and a side-by-side for free viewing without glasses. The quality used to be low. For example, most video codecs do not handle interlaced content well or subsample color information (reducing color resolution to the room from the original resolution), which significantly reduces the quality of the anaglyph.

The solution to the above problem is to create only one file and convert it in real time to the desired output format. Stereoscopic Player is a real-time conversion app. It's easy to use the player: Load your stereoscopic film, tell the player how it's encoded, and finally select the desired output format (called the viewing method). For your convenience, Stereoscopic Player remembers the input settings for each stereoscopic movie in your built-in video library, so you don't have to redo all the setup steps again. For the most popular 3D DVDs and 3D video files, Stereoscopic Player can even recover the proper settings from a web server. If you're creating content yourself, you can send your video files along with a stereoscopic metafile, which also eliminates the need to specify the input format.

For professional use, command line parameters, OLE automation and the Sony 9-pin protocol are available to automate Stereoscopic Player. In addition, you can control external effects through a serial port or DMX512.

What about 2D-3D conversion?

Stereoscopic Player cannot convert 2D to 3D content. There is no real-time conversion algorithm that works reasonably well. The computer is not smart enough to understand what is in the foreground and what is still in the background. Because Stereoscopic Player is a high-quality product, no inferior conversion algorithm has been incorporated into the player.
