The Monitoring Agent is software
The Agent is software that we developed to measure the performance and availability of the network and applications. Four types of agents are available and they all have the same features. This ensures that deployment is easy, no matter where you want to increase visibility and monitor performance. This includes Public Monitoring Agents that are managed by Obkio on public clouds such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.
Visibility from the end-user perspective with The Monitoring Agent
By running performance tests directly from headquarters and branch offices, agents measure network and application performance as if they were real users. The exact location within the network may change depending on the architecture of the network. In some cases, the Agent is installed near the firewall to monitor ISP (WAN) performance and in other cases at the edge of the LAN network for a complete end-to-end performance monitoring solution.
Install and forget
Typically, Agents are installed in the same location where users (Headquarters and Branch Offices) and IT infrastructure (Data Centers and Cloud Environments) are located. In most cases, only one agent is needed per site, but many can be installed on large campuses for more visibility. Once installed, Agents receive their settings and software updates from the cloud platform without any user interaction. Facilitating monitoring is the agent's number one priority.
Distributed deployment
Now, companies that use SaaS and cloud service that are no longer hosted in a centralized location. This new architecture increases the pressure on IT teams to correctly and accurately monitor the performance and availability of services across all their locations. To simplify the process, agents run tests from all of their connected locations to provide a more distributed network monitoring solution compared to traditional centralized monitoring solutions.
Continuous Monitoring
Whether you're using them for Network Performance Monitoring (NPM) or Application Performance Monitoring (APM), agents are always working hard. With The Monitoring Agent continuous network monitoring, the agent gives users more visibility into performance issues that are often intermittent and difficult to identify. Get notified immediately when there's a problem or check past performance data to understand what happened after an incident.
Zero Impact
Because The Monitoring Agent is not online on the network, but installed as terminal devices, its installation and use does not affect IT operations. In addition to fully configurable speed tests, Agents do not perform stress tests on the network or applications. Performance tests performed by the Agent simulate the normal usage of a single user, which means there is no impact on IT operations. In addition, the installation does not require any port mirroring or traffic capture, which can cause privacy or confidentiality issues.
