TinyBooks Pro is an ultra-simple accounting program designed for domestic and small businesses and perfect for single owners.
What is TinyBooks Pro?
TinyBooks Pro is an ultra-simple accounting program designed for domestic and small businesses and perfect for single owners. TinyBooks Pro requires an Intel-based Macintosh running OSX.
TinyBooks Pro is a single-entry, flexible, bloated, and perfect companion to help with taxes throughout and especially at the end of the year. Although designed with small businesses in mind, it can also be used at home to help with family finances.
Many tax-related programs, such as TurboTax and H&R Block (formerly known as TaxCut or At Home) and others, are tied to a specific tax year and must be purchased again each year. TinyBooks Pro is NOT tied to a specific fiscal year. Tax laws may change, but the need to keep track of expenses, revenues and profits never seems to change, and that's exactly what TinyBooks Pro is all about! The TinyBooks Pro you buy today can be used to help you with your taxes in recent years, this year, next year and in the coming years.
TinyBooks Pro actually works automatically most of the time. All you really need to do is enter each expense or revenue item, as it happens, or at the end of the month, and the program calculates everything else, automatically and instantly.
The Accounts dialog box, the Bottom Row Reports window, and the Transaction Reports and Search windows let you create revenue, expense, quarterly, annual, and custom reports for virtually any period of time. Bottom Line reports are exactly the reports that a counter wants. There are no parameters required for these reports, the program knows exactly how to create them. Year-end accounting is simply easy.
The Accounts dialog not only instantly displays monthly and accumulated year-on-year totals, but also displays monthly trends (instant, graphical, intuitive, and without any user intervention). Budgets are also optional and easily integrated into any account.
TinyBooks Pro also includes a Professional Invoice Printer utility and invoices are printed on ordinary white paper so that expensive third-party forms are not required. The Professional Invoice Printer has been completely revamped. It's now easy to create a plethora of standard and custom forms, such as invoices, estimates, claims, proposals, and more.
If you need Professional Check Printing, TinyBooks Pro now also handles it. In fact, we did the manual labor so you don't have to. No more testing and experimenting with multiple checks to ensure things fit in and align properly. When you buy TinyBooks Pro checks, they work perfectly the first and first time.
All transactions and reports can be exported as desired (for example, for delivery to a counter or for import in a spreadsheet, etc.). All transactions can be easily sorted by Date, Comment, Payment Type, Account Number, Amount, or Transaction Type (expense or revenue.)
TinyBooks Pro also supports all types of national and international taxes, such as sales taxes, GST (goods and services tax), PST (provincial sales tax), VAT (value-added tax), and more. TinyBooks Pro can even handle multiple tax types without adding complexity.
TinyBooks Pro: Is It Right for You?
TinyBooks Pro is undoubtedly an incredibly simple to use accounting program. That's certainly your main niche! It was written for small business owners who hate accounting and want to do as little as possible but still have all the facts and figures needed to run the business and help at tax time. TinyBooks Pro meets this need for thousands of small businesses.
But because it's such a simple program, it can't include the vast resources of big boy accounting programs. These other accounting programs (such as: Quicken and QuickBooks) are really excellent, but suffer because they are so overly complex that they leave most users who are not trained accountants perplexed. Many of these other programs are not only much more expensive than TinyBooks Pro, but usually need to be purchased again every year. Some aren't even compatible with newer Mac OS, like TinyBooks Pro. (It's pretty obvious that these other programs, however capable they are, are so complex that companies need to offer seminars and training courses on how to use the programs. Accounting consultants are usually only needed to help you get started.)
So the real question you should ask yourself is whether the subset of accounting resources provided by TinyBooks Pro is sufficient for your business. I can't be more honest than that. That's what this is really about. Fortunately, TinyBooks Pro is distributed as shareware and you can try it before you buy. The program you download is the real one, no resources are left out. It's a real test of the program. If your business is such that TinyBooks Pro can effectively meet your needs, there is no simpler program out there. You'll see, step by step, with screenshots, exactly how easy TinyBooks Pro is and how much it can do for you.
TinyBooks Pro: Accounting Experience
Ken Winograd (the programmer of TinyBooks Pro) has a long history in creating financial and accounting software. Long before the Macintosh existed, Ken wrote several investment portfolio programs for the Apple II computer.
Later, Ken also worked for a company called Great American Software, where he created the Billing Module (along with several other utilities) for his very popular One Write Plus accounting software for IBM PCs. Ken was also the lead programmer (and then software engineering manager) of early versions of software-based Dome Books, published by Dome Publishing of Rhode Island. At that time, Dome accounting software supported Apple II computers, IBM PC and even Commodore 64 computers.
Since 2003, Ken has designed, programmed, published and supported the popular programs TinyBooks and TinyBooks Pro Accounting, currently only for the Macintosh. The common theme in all these years of accounting experience has been to make accounting simple and intuitive for families and small businesses around the world.
TinyBooks Pro: Theory of Operation
TinyBooks Pro works by tracking multiple accounts that you can customize. There are four basic types of accounts: Deductible Expenses, Non-Deductible Expenses, Taxable Income, and Non-Taxable Income. For a typical small business, that's all that's needed. As you can imagine, non-deductible expenses and non-taxable income accounts are included for your accounting convenience as they are not included in profit calculations. However, if you are using this program for home use, and not as a small business, these types of accounts will be very useful. Commercial profit is calculated by subtracting the sum of deductible expenses from the sum of taxable profit. With TinyBooks Pro, you never need to request a calculation, all calculations are performed instantly whenever you add, delete or modify any item.
System requirements
The latest version of TinyBooks Pro 10 (now a 64-bit application) requires an Intel-based Macintosh running Mac OSX 10.10.5 or higher. And yes, it works well with macOS 10.14.x, known as Mojave, and the latest Mac OS, known as Catalina (10.15). TinyBooks Pro also requires a screen resolution of at least 1280x800.
