What is TracePro?

TracePro is a powerful, imageless, optical lighting analysis and design program with an easy-to-use graphical interface. Its solid modeling, Monte Carlo ray tracking and optimization capabilities make it a versatile tool for lighting designers and optical analysts.

TracePro combines a graphical user interface with solid modeling, Monte Carlo ray tracking, analysis capabilities, CAD import/export, optimization methods, and a complete and robust macro language to solve a wide variety of lighting design and optical analysis issues.

It is mainly used in lighting design to simulate and optimize light tubes, light guides and lenses and mirrors without image. TracePro is also a powerful tool for analyzing imageless aspects of imaging systems such as diffuse dwell light and polarization. With its full set of features, designers can simulate surface effects, including specular absorption, reflection and transmission and dispersion. Volume properties, including absorption, dispersion and fluorescence, enable device design and analysis for a wide variety of applications.

TracePro is also used to virtually create and test prototypes, reducing the cost and time to create and test a number of physical prototypes. Users discover that they can avoid intermediate steps and create only one final prototype. TracePro provides an integrated software environment that helps you complete almost any task in contemporary lighting design. More than a ray tracking program, it also provides advanced tools for designing medical devices, lighting, screen backlighting, light tubes, automotive lighting and many other applications.

Key features and benefits

TracePro is a comprehensive program for designing and analyzing imageless optical systems and lighting systems, as well as imageless aspects of imaging systems. A Monte Carlo ray tracking software based on a solid modeling mechanism, is an excellent tool to simulate almost all optical or lighting systems. Many engineers use it for virtual prototyping, avoiding most expensive and time-consuming hardware prototype cycles. TracePro's analysis tools include irradiance/lighting maps, Candela charts, luminance maps, polarization maps, and ray tables. The Path Classification feature allows users to learn what's happening in their design. Photorealistic rendering allows viewing the illuminated appearance. 3D Interactive Optimizer enables automatic optimization of the shape of a lens or reflector to achieve a set of weighted performance goals. Targets can be any combination of:

  • Total Flow
  • Uniformity
  • Irradiance/lighting profile or distribution
  • Candela or angular intensity profile or distribution
  • Color in CIE xy or u'v ' coordinates
  • Beam width
  • Beam Center
  • Luminance
  • User defined

Industrial Applications

TracePro is used in a wide range of industries. Almost any light-using application can take advantage of TracePro's design, analysis, optimization, and virtual prototyping capabilities.

Lighting

Design indoor and outdoor luminaires for residential and commercial environments, street lighting, stadium lighting, airport runway lighting, natural lighting, emergency lighting, and entertainment lighting.

Consumer electronics

Illuminated indicator lights using light tubes benefit from 3D Optimizer and photo-realistic rendering for illuminated-looking simulation. Advanced features such as RepTile enable display design, including digital movie and office projectors, computer monitors, mobile displays, and Televisions.

Automotive

Automotive lighting designers use it for interior lighting, outdoor lighting, instrument panels and head displays.

Aerospace and Defense

TracePro is used for diffuse light analysis and design for remote sensing systems, astronomical telescopes and planetary exploration (e.g. Mars Rover cameras).

Medicine and life sciences

Trace Pro is used for dental and surgical lighting, medical imaging and lighting for endoscopes, optical tissue applications (e.g., melanoma detection), spectroscopes, and laser and LED surgical devices.
