What is Transana Multiuser?

Transana Multiuser puts the powerful features of Transana Professional in the hands of research teams.

Collaborate while trancreing, coding, and analyzing independently from anywhere! You'll always have the latest synchronized and updated analytics data. Use our internal communication tools to chat with colleagues in real time and post messages and discussions to the entire team.

Sharing real-time data

Transana Multiuser allows all your users to work in a single database, analyzing the same dataset collaboratively from anywhere on Earth with a live Internet connection. Transcripts, clips, quotes, snapshots, and encoding are updated for all users instantly.

Data storage and recovery to optimize efficiency

1) Each member of the research team has a copy of the Transana Multiuser software, configured to access the correct database.

2) All still image, audio and video files are shared over the network at each search location.

3) A single Transana database, stored in a shared Transana Message Server, is shared with all registered users on the search team. This database contains:

• All libraries, documents, episodes, transcripts, collections, quotes, clips, keywords, codes, notes.
• All text data, including the content of Documents and Transcripts.

Transana Message Server synchronizes all copies of Transana Multiuser that are connected to the same data.

File storage and transfer

Your raw media files - the video, audio, and still image files in your data collection - are not stored on the dedicated Transana message server, regardless of whether you set up or subscribe to Transana Cloud Service. You'll keep those available on your own computer or local network, as well as each member of your research team. Video files in particular are extremely large and the Internet is simply not fast enough to stream video as needed for analysis on Transana. As a result, each member of your collaboration needs quick access to your project's media data files.

This mixed data sharing model enables the best of both worlds. Data that is frequently changed during analysis is centralized to optimize data sharing. Data that does not change during analysis is distributed, allowing high-quality media files with faster access, avoiding all the problems that accompany video streaming.

Although Transana has secure inline file transfer, most projects consider file sharing services like Box, DropBox, Google Drive, OneDrive, and iCloud to be very convenient for sharing media files with colleagues. Please contact us if you have questions about storing and sharing files for use with Transana Multiuser.

Technology

Transana Multiuser requires Internet access and a Transana Message Server to perform data sharing. There are two options:

1 - You can set up your own server and individual user accounts for this, with proper support and technical knowledge.

2 - You can sign up for Transana Cloud Service and we will set up and maintain your server and user accounts for you.
