Vienna Smart Hits is a breathtaking exploration of the organic but surreal and hectic amalgam of hits, braams, risers, swells and sub booms. After the success in Vienna Smart Spheres, sound designers and editing engineers dug deep into the database of several million samples of released and unreleased treasures to discover extraordinary wonders that were folded, twisted, mutilated, distorted, augmented and reinvented.
Who would have thought that a noisy Bb sub-contrab of the contrabassoon would be the ideal raw material for organic sub-booms? That the extrafine ponticello tremolos performed by a set of violas could be the basis of mysterious entropic explorations? Combined with exciting sounds from a variety of diverse synthesizers, our sound experts have created extensive material for this impactful collection.
Sound sources used in Vienna Smart Hits include the bass drum of Synchron Percussion I for bass beats, reverse cymbals for swells, our Yamaha CFX for shimmering transients, solo violin glissandos for risers, brass rises for short risers, sforzato and sustained sounds of Vienna Dimension Brass for "braaams", as well as inverted sounds for swells, a heavily distorted Vienna Konzerthaus organ for braaams and Taiko drums for sub-boom rumble.
In addition to the organic component created with symphonic sounds, several electronic sound sources, including wavetable and FM synthesizers, were used to create additional layers, using its extensive routing and envelope modulation capabilities. The synthesizer sounds were later treated with voice and detuning functions to spatially adapt them to the original sample recordings. In addition, all sounds were adjusted and modeled using a wide variety of manipulation techniques, with a finishing touch of mastering before being included in the Vienna Smart Hits collection.
