WAsP is the industry standard PC software for wind resource assessment, location and calculation of energy yield for wind turbines and wind farms.
WAsP is the industry standard PC software for wind resource assessment, location and calculation of energy yield for wind turbines and wind farms. WAsP is used for locations located on all types of terrain around the world and includes models and tools for all stages of the process, from wind data analysis to calculating the energy yield of a wind farm. Nearly 5000 WAsP licenses have been sold in about 100 countries.
Typical WAsP applications:
WAsP contains several physical models to describe the weather and wind flow in different terrains and near protective obstacles. In addition, WAsP contains an activation model for wind farm activation purposes and a stability model for medium heat flow conditions. For horizontal and vertical extrapolation, WAsP uses the built-in linear IBZ model, which will work properly on flat to moderately complex terrain. If the terrain is too complex, with many steep slopes, WAsP also includes easy access to a state-of-the-art external CFD model.
The data used by WAsP for calculations of wind resources and energy yield comes from different sources. The climatological wind input can come from wind measurements at a nearby weather mast or can be derived from meso scale modeling results. The elevation description is derived directly from the elevation data of space shuttles or other data sets, while the description of ground cover and nearby shelter obstacles can be extracted from topographic maps, databases, or satellite images (Google Earth).
WAsP comes complete with freeware utility tools for wind data analysis, digital map construction and editing, power curve and thrust editing, as well as IEC 61400-1 site assessment and IEC 61400-1 power performance measurements.
