What is Wat?

The Windfarm Assessment Tool (WAT) is a PC software for assessing the suitability of the wind turbine and wind farm site. WAT primarily uses the results of WAsP and WAsP Engineering to calculate and evaluate properties according to the methodology of international standards.

Typical WAT applications:

• IEC 61400-1 site assessment and site adequacy.
• Calculation of the effective intensity of turbulence, including the wakefulness and management effect of the wind sector.
• Correction of turbulence intensity modeled by measured turbulence intensity.
• Calculation of the energy production uncertainty of wind farms.
• Correction of the air density of the power curve.
• Calculation of losses of energy production, including wakefulness effect and management of the wind sector.
• Terrain assessment and obstacles for IEC 61400-12 energy performance measurements.
• WAT enhances the WAsP wake model by adding interdependent submodels for technical losses and uncertainties.
• The data used by WAT comes mainly from WAsP and WAsP Engineering. However, turbulence intensity data from wind measurements at a nearby weather mast can also be used to correct the intensity of modeled turbulence. The terrain description is derived directly from the elevation data of the space shuttle or other datasets.
• WAT software includes electronic help features and online documentation, as well as sample data and quick start tutorials.
