What is Wind Data & Reports?

The data and maps are derived from simulations of historical atmospheric conditions performed by a numerical weather forecast (NWP) model. The output of the model is even smaller, with a microscale model that accounts for local terrain and surface influences and is adjusted using available high-quality wind measurements. The approach has been completely validated and static uncertainty is available. In addition, time series and wind feature grid options are also provided using the WRF model.

Maps and resource data

  • Validated annual wind speed maps available from 10m - 140m
  • The GeoTiff file includes wind speed, elevation and roughness at 200 m resolution
  • The ESRI Shapefile includes wind speed, power, Weibel A ek, frequency percentages (1 m/s boxes), wind rose, monthly and daytime data.
  • Onshore and offshore data available
  • GIS formats compatible with standard GIS software

Time series

  • Long-term time series Used for MCP analysis, where short-term data are available
    • WRF time series with resolution of 3 km or 9 km for 1 year to 35 years. Includes solar, IT, and humidity data to complete the analysis of conditions
    • Global reanalysis data (MERRA, MERRA2, ERAI, ERA5 and CFSR)
    • Onshore and offshore data available
  • Typical chronological series of the year (short term)
    • Short-term dataset using the AWST MASS model and scaled to a 200m resolution to represent a 365-day sample over a 15-year period
    • CSV format - Easily imports to Openwind, Windographer and other plant design and resource assessment software

Wind Resource Grid (WRG)

  • The site met towers, designs preliminary turbine layouts and gets preliminary energy estimates
  • Easily exports to the most common wind flow software and plant design
  • Hub height inserted by user between 10m - 140km
  • Basic WRG: 200m resolution, fixed 25km x 25km
  • Advanced WRG: resolution of 50 m, 50 km x 50 km up to 100 km x 100 km

Site reports

  • Fast and comprehensive PDF report with graphics for presentation
  • Comprehensive tables and charts, including wind rose, frequency distribution, and monthly day time data
  • Advanced Reporting allows the user to compare up to three turbine models per location
  • Based on 200m resolution data
  • Many additional features included
