What is WindSim ?

WindSim includes many new features, additional functionality and valuable extensions requested by our users. Here are some of the highlights.

New actuator disc add-on module

A new actuator disc model, validated based on wind tunnel experiments and large-scale projects. The model is based on Nikolaos Simisiroglou's industrial doctoral thesis "Wind power track modeling: development and application of an actuator disc method for industrial use". The new disc model of the actuator is able to operate larger wind farms, is able to calculate the energy production for a certain wind speed

New 3D component for viewing

The largest models can be viewed directly in WindSim. Easier navigation with keyboard (home, up, down, left, right, pageup, paging)

Energy calculation based on time history data

Power calculation is based on time history data whenever .tws files are provided and power history and IEC classification are enabled

Weighting of wind resource map and energy calculation

• By inverse distance to climatology by power 1, 2, 3 ...
• For the reliability of climatology

The actual weight that a climatology has for a grid point is then a combination of the inverse distance of climatology up to that point and the reliability that was defined for that climatology

Manual weighting of energy calculation

The actual weight that a climatology has for a turbine can be set manually. For example, the turbines closest to climatology 1 are weighed only by this climatology. The turbines closest to climatology 2 are weighed only by climatology 2 and the turbines that are in the middle between these two climatologies are weighed from 50% to 50%

Export to Openwind WRB format

The format contains all the results of direct simulation interpolated in a regular grid: elevation, roughness, speed, flow angle, turbulence, directional displacement .... This file can be easily uploaded to openwind software.

WindSim Express accessible in WindSim

Create projects around the world using WindSim Express. WindSim Express is now available directly from the WindSim menu bar: "File" - "New" - "Express Project..."

System Requirements

Microsoft Windows 8, Windows 7, Vista, Server 2003 and Server 2008 / Server 2008 R2 (32-bit and 64-bit versions in all cases). 3D views do not require, but will be rendered with OpenGL-compatible graphics cards.
