What is WireframeSketcher?

Powerful and flexible

WireframeSketcher comes as a standalone model and wireframe tool, but also as a plug-in for any Eclipse IDE.

It's cross-platform and has a fast, native user interface on Windows, Mac. OS X and Linux. Create anything from quick models to large prototypes. Built-in refactoring allows you to rename and move files seamlessly without breaking links. The flexible user interface allows you to take advantage of multiple monitors.

Clean or hand-drawn appearance

With WireframeSketcher, you get a rough, unfinished, hand-drawn look for your models. That way, your stakeholders won't be distracted by small details and you'll be able to focus on what's important. When needed, you can instantly switch to a clean look.

Wide library of UI controls

WireframeSketcher comes with an extensive set of UI controls. You will find buttons, check boxes, trees, tables. Controls are very flexible and can be customized by using properties and applying wiki syntax directly to text.

Fast and easy to use

The interface is optimized for speed. Several shortcuts allow efficient use of the keyboard. View properties is optimized to maximize your efficiency. Quickly position objects with grid docking and smart guides.

Interactive prototypes

Use the link to create interactive prototypes. Present your prototypes in full-screen mode and click to show how the app or website should work. Export your prototype to high-quality, clickable PDF (example PDF) and allow your customers to test it themselves.

Flexible wiki formatting

Wiki formatting allows you to style any widget that supports text. Using a simple syntax, you can place bold, italic, underline, and even insert icons to create check boxes, radio buttons, and more. The syntax highlight prevents you from getting lost in your text.

Use your own images

Is a widget missing? Want to include a logo? WireframeSketcher allows you to use your own images. Color images can be conveniently drawn in black and white to match the overall appearance of the wireframe. And best of all - you can use SVG vector graphic images that will automatically get the hand-drawn appearance.

Large set of vector icons

WireframeSketcher comes with over 200 vector icons that work great with wireframes. Icons work in any size, can be colored, rotated, and embedded in any text. To embed, simply press Ctrl + Space while editing the text of a widget and choose from the list. If these icons aren't enough, simply install extra icon packs from the stencil library.

Create reusable bits with components

Do you need a common model, a master for all your screens? Do you want to reuse this default dialog in multiple places? Use components to do just that. Changes to a component are instantly visible on all screens that use it. Any screen can be used as a component. This means that it is easy to create screen variations without duplication. The easy inheritance mechanism allows you to change the component instance without interrupting the link to its source.

Write down your wireframes

Write down your wireframes directly in WireframeSketcher to provide more detailed specifications to keep up with your design. Notes can be attached to entire screens, but also to individual objects.

Storyboard use cases

Make a storyboard of your use cases and show how the UI responds to user actions and changes in time. Use storyboards to make slideshows and export interactive PDFFs from multiple pages or HTML.

Show your work

Need to discuss an idea without other apps in the way? Do you want to make a presentation of the prototype to your client? Full-screen presentation mode is just a click away. Want to send your wireframes and storyboards? Just export your wireframes to high quality PDF, HTML or PNG and you're all set. Upload and share the exported HTML online on wireframesketcher servers. You can always print your wireframes on paper and discuss them with your customers personally.

Export your wireframes to high-quality vector PDF and share them easily. Using the PDF format ensures that your customers can easily view and test their prototypes without having to install anything. PDFs are also great for sharing your concepts with designers. They can easily open your documents with the graphical tool of your choice, copy texts and import graphics.

Add extra stencils

Use the user-contributed Mockups Gallery to start your mockups and get inspiration. Find stencils for Android, iPhone, iPad, Windows Phone, extra icons and other useful features and share your own contributions with the community.

Open format, XML-based

Wireframes are stored in an open XML-based format. You can easily store your screens under version control and use eclipse's default tools to track changes and perform differences and merges when needed. Create your own tools in this format using the open source SDK.
