What is WordSmith Tools?

WordSmith Tools is an integrated suite of programs that seeks to understand how words behave in your texts.

You will be able to use the tools to find out how words are used in your own texts, or in other people's texts.

The WordList tool allows you to see a list of all words or sets of words, organized alphabetically or frequently.

The concordance tool, Concord, gives you the chance to see any word or phase in your context – so you can see if everything makes sense. With KeyWords you can find the keywords of the text.

The tools have been used by the Oxford University Press for lexicographic work itself when preparing their dictionaries, by language teachers and students, and by researchers investigating language patterns in various languages in various countries around the world.

Wordlist

WordList generates word lists based on one or more text files. Word lists are shown in both alphabetical and frequency order.

Lists can be saved for later use, edited, printed, copied to your word processor, or saved to text files.

Concord

Concord is a program that consits using text or text files.

To use this tool, you need to specify a word that Concord will search for in all text files that have been selected. It will present a concordance page, and give you access to information about the placement of the search for that word.

KEY WORDS

The purpose of this program is to find and identify keywords in a text. To do this, the tool comlikes the words in the text with a wordset reference taken from a large piece of text. Any word can be found appearing is often considered a key. Key words are displayed in order of frequency.
