XLDyn is an easy-to-use model-based system engineering software for requirements tracking and verification, providing a wide variety of verification options, including simple cellular equations, integrated simulation tools, and test data.
The XLDyn software consists of two modules developed in the Microsoft .NET Framework. XLSE for the creation of models of Systems compatible with OMG SysML and XL1D for the creation and simulation of detailed models of multiphysical systems 1D. XLDyn is the perfect tool to balance projects at the system, subsystem and component level. XLDyn can be used in the development of virtually any product.
The XLDyn comes as two additional tabs (XLSE and XL1D) on microsoft tape. The two tabs contain several tools for creating requirements blocks, requirements check blocks, and other elements used in Model-Based Systems Engineering. You can insert links to mathematical models and click them to simulate system behavior. If you need to check requirements with tools outside the Microsoft Excel environment, for example, by running tests, you can submit job requests electronically, and XLDyn can help you track these work orders. XLDyn will even update the SysML diagrams with the latest results.
Key features and benefits of XLSE
XLSE's easy-to-use interface and project viewing capability are ideal for managers and teams to keep track of project status.
SysML Diagram Creation
Requirements can be created from a Word document or imported from other requirements systems, such as IBM DOORS. XLDyn automatically creates the System Requirements Table (SRT), a snapshot summary of the overall project, from the Word Document. In the SRT requirements hierarchy, creating SysML diagrams is quick and easy. Requirement diagrams are created semi-automatically with minimal user effort.
Requirements Verification
Check blocks are easily created and automatically assign MoEs and parameters to cell locations. Internal scan blocks can directly call cell equations, user-defined macros, spreadsheets, and multi-physical 1D models (XL1D or solidThinking Activate). These built-in verifiavers can run directly from the SysML diagram, and the SRT is updated automatically. Quick design studies can be performed by changing the design parameters in the cells and running the simulation. Additional third-party simulation software can be easily integrated into the XLSE as additional internal testers if desired. External testers, that is, blocks that get simulation and test results from outside of XLDyn, can automatically generate a job request email to the designated engineer, and the results are automatically updated in the SRT when the results are received.
Design for Quality
XLSE also provides tools such as FMEA, DOE, and domain mapping. The system-level DOE can be run using all subsystems and parameters in the model, including test data. Dialogboxes and utility functions simplify the modeling process. Excel objects and diagrams can be moved and copied/pasted. The retouch tool will adjust the shape, size, and alignment of diagrams with one click. XLSE supports models for configuring systems and subsystems, which means you don't have to start a blank model at a time. Templates can be edited and customized for specific instances of a product line.
Key features and benefits of XL1D
XL1D is a multiphysical simulation tool of grouped parameters that uses native Excel shapes and images to create icons representing component types; the icons are then connected to form the system model. The XL1D is fully integrated with the XLSE for requirements checking and parametric studies.
Component Library
The component library includes mechanical, electrical, control/signal processing, thermal and reliability domains. The custom labels of the transfer function blocks reflect the actual government equation of the block. Automatic component connection in multiple superblock worksheets is available. There is a large library of advanced functions for creating and managing complex models.
Solution methods
XL1D includes a powerful scripting language without the need for a third-party compiler and the ability to deploy Finite State Machines. Time domain, frequency domain, and static analysis are available, and continuous and discrete time simulation can be performed. You can automatically perform reliability analysis or create Reliability Block Diagrams (RBD) directly from a physical model (patent pending)
Unique features
The Component property can be linked to spreadsheet cells, easily enabling DoE studies, optimization, and exchange of product variants. Monte Carlo simulation using integrated component variation specifications can be performed by simply marking a box. DOE studies can be easily configured with minimal user input. Automated creating charts and bookmarks with bookmarks, along with the Microsoft Office environment, makes it easy to create reports. Integrated Unit Management enables mixed units for components and conversion from one click to output if needed. Components can be integrated into product databases.
Industrial Applications
XLDyn MBSE tools can be applied to all industries, but especially to those with interdependent and complex requirements. It can be used at the system, subsystem, and product design component level. The sectors benefited include aerospace, automotive, medical, heavy equipment, oil and gas, and consumer products.
XLDyn provides the Systems Engineer, Product Development Engineer, Project Engineer, Test Engineer or Simulation with the ability to develop and monitor product requirements. They can graphically develop and document requirements verification methods. Design requirements and parameters can be balanced to optimize projects. Actual requirements data for goals can be tracked throughout the development process.
