Maze is the technology company behind Maze, a user research and product discovery platform used by product, design and research teams to test prototypes, websites and concepts with real users.

Founded in 2018 by Jonathan Widawski and Thomas Mary, Maze is a privately held company operating as a distributed organisation. The contracting entity in the platform's terms of service is MAZE.DESIGN LTD, with an address in London, United Kingdom. In June 2022 the company announced a 40 million dollar Series B round led by Felicis, with participation Emergence, Amplify, Partech, Seedcamp and the investment arms of Atlassian, Zoom and HubSpot, bringing total funding to 60 million dollars since inception.

The technology is delivered as SaaS, hosted on AWS, with no on-premise version: a study imports screens Figma, FigJam, Sketch, Adobe XD or InVision, is distributed through a link or the participant panel, and returns a report with mission success rate, paths taken and recordings. According to Maze, the platform accounts for more than 60,000 brands, 325,000 published studies and 6.2 million collected responses.

Maze product lines are:

• Prototype Testing — testing of prototypes imported the main design tools, with success and path deviation metrics per mission.
• Surveys — surveys with conditional logic, scales and open questions, standalone or inside larger studies.
• Card Sorting and Tree Testing — information architecture validation ahead of redesigns and content migrations.
• Live Website Testing and Mobile Testing — running missions on websites and apps already in production.
• Interview Studies and AI Moderator — moderated interviews with scheduling and transcription, or conducted automatically by artificial intelligence.
• Maze Panel and Reach — participant recruitment across more than 150 countries with over 400 targeting filters, or campaigns to the company's own base.
• Automated Reports, Clips and Maze AI — reports updated in real time, video excerpts and automatic grouping of open answers by theme.

Maze holds SOC 2 Type II certification and GDPR compliance, with a public DPA and subprocessor list, TLS 1.2 encryption in transit and AES-256 at rest, and SSO via SAML and OpenID Connect on the Enterprise plan. The participant-facing interface is localised into 24 languages, including Brazilian Portuguese. Among the cases published by the company is Itaú Unibanco, which describes scaling dozens to hundreds of studies per year.
